Week 40: October 2022 Week 1, The Week Ahead Horoscope
Mercury has stationed Direct in Virgo, bringing more mental clarity & straightforwardness in communication. The Moon will be VOC for 51 hours this week, & we end it with the fiery Full Moon in Aries.
Introduction
Monday, Oct 3rd
[8:59 PM ET] The Moon in Capricorn trine Mercury at 24º26’ Virgo
[11:48 PM ET] The Moon conjoins Pluto Retrograde at 26º07’ Capricorn
To start off the first week of October, Mercury has just stationed Direct which brings more straightforwardness, clarity, and understanding with communication, knowledge, letters, and messages. The Moon in Capricorn brings a more serious, somber, and melancholic vibe in terms of assessing details, facts, knowledge, and information. The Moon making a trine to Mercury is great for reading, studying, learning knowledge, information, data, dealing with paperwork, editing, and easy communication. The Moon will conjoin Pluto towards the end of the day which brings hidden feelings, secrets, shadows, and power complexes that bring up more ancient and past trauma since Pluto and the Moon are ruled by the ancient planet Saturn.
Tuesday, Oct 4th
[6:20 AM ET] INGRESS: The Moon enters Aquarius
[10:48 AM ET] The Moon in Aquarius sextile Jupiter Retrograde at 02º39’ Aries
[6:04 PM ET] The Moon in Aquarius trine Venus at 06º58’ Libra
The Moon will enter Aquarius on Tuesday, and the Moon’s vibe will change from being serious and dry in Capricorn to being more concerned with rigidity, creating stability, and reinforcing blocks and binds since it is in Aquarius, moving towards a conjunction with the ruler of this sign, Saturn. A bodily conjunction impacts planets more than aspect because the bodies of two planets are meeting during a conjunction in the sky. The Moon with Saturn brings seriousness, grief, somberness, old matters, boundaries, mentally freezing, anxiety, and mental stress that is building throughout all of Tuesday and Wednesday, but on Tuesday, the Moon is able to find some support from both of the benefics, Venus and Jupiter. The Moon will sextile Jupiter and then will be enclosed between the aspects of the benefics. The circumstances and events the Moon is moving from are positive and uplifting, and what it is moving towards in the future is also supportive. Venus will be in the overcoming position to the Moon in Aquarius which helps to bring diplomacy, justice, fairness, and the introduction of compromise for the day. Aquarius is usually a sign of strangers and Venus overcoming the Moon can show a pleasant interaction with a stranger and meeting a new friend. Great time for love, relationships, artistic and creative pursuits, romance, flirtation, laughter, gift giving, and kindness.
Wednesday, Oct 5th
[2:30 AM ET] The Moon in Aquarius trine The Sun at 12º00’ Libra
[12:57 PM ET] The Moon in Aquarius square Uranus Retrograde at 18º13’ Taurus
[1:59 PM ET] The Moon conjoins Saturn Retrograde at 18º50’ Aquarius
[6:45 PM ET] The Moon in Aquarius trine Mars at 21º40’ Gemini
[6:45 PM ET] VOC MOON START: 51hr 55m, the Moon is Void of Course
On Wednesday, the Moon will still be moving through Aquarius, and it can bring a detached or avoidant vibe since Saturn represents inhibition and restriction in action. The Moon is able to make a trine to the Sun in Libra, which represents our needs and our wants finding themselves in harmony socially. We’re concerned with matters of rulers, old people, elders, land, government, and law in Aquarius and in Libra too. The Moon making a trine to the Sun is a day where we are able to find recognition, acknowledgement, and the ability to see long term plans start to blossom towards fruition and hinderances start to be removed, since Saturn will station Direct later this month. However, we find disruption, unexpected interruptions, and breakthroughs that disrupt our day when the Moon makes a square to Uranus. The Moon will shortly conjoin Saturn after, which brings this volatility to our sense of stability, infrastructure, and old leaders, activating the ongoing Saturn/Uranus square that gets the closest it possibly will get on October 4th. This will be the final square between these planets now that Saturn is getting ready to leave this sign by March 2023, and it highlights a final moment of tension in addressing the challenges of resource instability, labor instability, exhaustion, wealth disparity, and lack of nourishment in Taurus, and the conflict it has with existing rules, limits, restraints, and boundaries in Aquarius. There is a sense of fear, anxiety, and mental distress that the Moon has us endure for the day, potentially hard labor, cunning, and malevolent thoughts about others. Saturn brings a more grave feeling to the day, serious and expressionless, Saturn shows us that the people (the Moon) are feeling melancholy on Wednesday. There can be feelings of rejection, feeling outcasted, exiled, or left out of something since Saturn makes us aware of boundaries, limits, and restrictions. The Moon conjoining Saturn also makes one aware of physical constraints, limits, or even things that are broken. The Moon can show physical injury in conjunction with a malefic if one is not careful. The Moon will then push past Saturn and make a trine to Mars which can ignite action, incite urgency, and quickness, skillfulness with fire, and encourage impulsivity towards action. After the delay Saturn has introduced, Mars gives us a nice boost and push of energy towards the end of the day.
However the Moon will, by Hellenistic Definition, go void for the next 51 hours. The Hellenistic definition of a Void of Course Moon is that the next aspect the Moon makes is greater than 30º (one whole zodiac sign). This happens pretty infrequently and only happens a few times a year. For 2022, this will be our first Hellenistic VOC Moon in 2022, and it will last from 6:45 PM ET on Wednesday to Friday at 10:40 PM, over 2 full days of time. Here are the rest of the void moons listed during this time
The Moon was said to be a planet that takes the influences from the planets and disperses it down to Earth, ensouling the celestial influence into Earthly and element experiences. The aspects of the Moon to and from planets indicate things that have happened in the past, and what is to come in the future, when the Moon is void, and it won’t contact any planets, in this case, within a 30º range, nothing will come of the sought situation or matter since the Moon isn’t moving towards anything or doing anything. The Moon being void of course and not connecting with any planets can indicate a period of isolation, loneliness, barrenness, desolation, alienation, and lack of revelation, knowledge, or understanding, wanderings of the mind, and lack of objective for the next few days.
If the Moon did not connect with any planets for 30º, and it did not witness any planets in any other signs, the Moon was sometimes called a Wild Moon. The Moon can witness and opposition to Mercury and square to Mars, but not from the time she goes void. The wild moon was indicative of moving towards matters of loneliness, isolation, as a result of being in the wilderness. Some authors like John of Spain use the term feralitas to describe the Moon as being “feral” during this time. The idea of this is that this planet lacks connection with civilization and the rest of the world, and it is “off the grid” and can even represent something disappeared. Like being lost in the woods, or even since this is in Aquarius/Pisces, lost at sea, in the water, or on the coast near the water. Picture what it is like to be lost with no map, no sense of direction, or sense of comprehension of surroundings. This is what the Feral Moon can feel like. In some ways, this sense of isolation was thought by ancient authors to put someone in a frenzy or state of panic. This feeling of being deserted and in a place of desolation is the theme of Wednesday going into Thursday with the Moon now running through the void. It has connotations with disappointment, melancholy, and somberness. It’s important to mention that this idea of being isolated from civilization and society was not seen in the most favorable lens because ancient people lived in a much more communal manner. Your community was how you survived, and without it, you had no other support system: there was the wilderness. No food, no shelter, no access to water potentially. The things you need for sustenance are out of reach. We see the anxieties of this condition reflected in the words used to describe this condition, such as: وحش, wahasha, as an adjective can mean desolate and lonely, but as a noun indicates wild, feral, animals, or even monsters. Undomesticated or wild animals were said to be represented by this condition, and the danger that can come from them as well too. The idea of something being untamed and dangerous was seen from this aspect whether it be in an actual encounter with a wild animal, or whether it be in our actions that there is a disregard for societal conventions of proper etiquette and how to behave, such as losing temper and self control. The Moon in Pisces is known for loosing the self and showing powerful moods that can potentially lead us to lose our temper and “lash out” as the Moon is feral. Anger and conflict is definitely highlighted as the Moon’s last aspect is a trine from Mars and its next aspect will be a square to Mars on Friday night.
Thursday, Oct 6th
[8:46 AM ET] INGRESS: The Moon enters Pisces
[11:55 PM ET] Mercury in Virgo trine Pluto Retrograde at 26º07’ Capricorn
On Thursday, the Moon will still be void as it moves through Pisces. This makes Thursday a day to do nothing, to be interrupted by nothing, and to accomplish nothing. The Void Moon reminds us that this is a time where nothing we do will materialize into any effects or circumstances, and that we do need a day to chill, relax, and decompress. These Hellenistic Void Moons are really rare, there usually is only like 1-5 in a given year, so I especially would recommend avoid starting any projects or accomplishing anything during this time. The Moon as the planet of revelations, messengers, and day to day life makes things very still and motionless for Thursday. Think about your relationship to doing nothing. For Martian people this can be very challenging since there is an impulsive nature to Aries and Scorpio, however we live in a society that values hustle culture and hard labor in exchange for pennies. In a world that tells you that your means of survival are dependent on how much labor you can exchange, what is the relationship you have to accepting to doing nothing? Questions to ponder for the Pisces Moon. The image that comes to mind is a fish swimming through the vast nothingness of water that is the ocean. Pisces is known for wandering aimlessly, and especially with this void moon, we may get a glimpse into the bliss of losing your ego of direction and being, as my partner who has Jupiter in Pisces describes, DFW: Down For Whatever. This is the last Pisces Moon that won’t have Jupiter present in Pisces for the next 2 months, so the Moon has time to contemplate, meditate, and sit in silence waiting and listening. The Moon gives us time to dream, gives us time to indulge, and gives us time to relax and let time elude us. To get lost in fantasy, in dreams, desires, muses, and visions.
Friday, Oct 7th
[10:40 PM ET] VOC MOON END: the Moon is no longer void of course
[10:40 PM ET] The Moon in Pisces square Mars at 22º17’ Gemini
On Friday, the Moon will STILL be void throughout most of the day on Friday, and the Moon will start to move closer towards a square with Mars in Gemini since the Moon is in Pisces. We can start to feel more irritated and agitated with the slowness, lack of progression, and feeling tired/exhausted as the Moon makes a square to Mars. This can show physical stress, exhaustion, and tiredness from work and labor. It can also indicate inflammation in the body, injury, harm from hot and fiery things. This can also indicate conflict, fighting, contention, and competition for the end of the day. Mars as the only malefic the Moon is connecting with shows anger and anger that disrupt our day. The Moon’s most recent aspect was a trine to Mars before the void, and its next aspect is a square to Mars after the void is over. Mars as the planet of competition and conflict being highlight shows a brief moment of standstill during the void, of peace even in the sign of Pisces, but these tensions resume on Friday night ET, which is ruled by Mars (according to Planetary Nights). Watch your tongue and be careful of intoxicants and transportation. Pisces is a sign that represents indulgence in alcohol, food, can sometimes be drugs, but regardless these distortions and changes in our perception can bring challenges and harm especially while driving, using transportation, or traveling since Mars is in Gemini.
Saturday, Oct 8th
[12:39 AM ET] The Moon conjoins Neptune Retrograde at 23º27’ Pisces
[7:10 AM ET] The Moon in Pisces opposes Mercury at 27º14’ Virgo
[11:56 AM ET] INGRESS: The Moon enters Aries
[3:36 PM ET] The Moon conjoins Jupiter Retrograde at 02º06’ Aries
[5:55 PM ET] STATION: Pluto stations Direct at 26º06’ Capricorn
To introduce the weekend, the Moon will conjoin Neptune in Pisces which brings illusions, distortion in reality, and confusion early in the morning on Saturday. The Moon in Pisces will show a moment of disillusionment and piecing the facts, details, and exactness of the information back together since the Moon will oppose Mercury in Virgo. Pisces explores contradictions, affirms belief, even if it doesn’t make sense, but the Moon and Mercury in opposition shows arguments, debates, and accuracy in information that helps to iron out or vision, plans, and ideas. We can feel overloaded, stressed, and scattered as Mercury represents our mind and nervous system, and it is scattered or stressed in this harsh aspect to the Moon. The Moon will then enter Aries, after a long transit of the Moon floundering and wandering through Pisces, it will enter the initiating, active, cardinal sign, Aries, a fire sign governed by the impulsive, brash, and eager planet Mars. The Moon will make a conjunction to Jupiter in Aries which helps to bring more optimism and it lightens the mood. Jupiter is a planet that is said to represent gathers, friends, good times, alleviation of sorrows, acceptance, affirmation, and removes limitations. The Moon in conjunction to Jupiter shows joy, good fortune and good luck, generosity from others, acceptance, praise, and hype. Jupiter is a benefic planet and it deals with matters of temperance, justice, and righteousness which can be themes we’re thinking a lot about since this Moon in Aries is the Full Moon in Aries. Jupiter is a planet that signifies laws, government, and doctrines, and the Moon highlights the corruption and hinderances that have taken place, but also the eventual changes that are to come once Jupiter enters Pisces, seeking more answers to the aimless and directionless feeling.
Sunday, Oct 9th
[10:20 AM ET] The Moon in Aries opposes Venus at 12º49’ Libra
[4:54 PM ET] LUNATION: The Moon opposes the Sun, Full Moon at 16º32’ Aries
[8:48 PM ET] The Moon in Aries sextile Saturn Retrograde at 18º44’ Aquarius
On Sunday, the Moon in Aries will be bright, and full of light, illuminating our subconscious desires to act, take initiative, and bring new beginnings into our life. Aries is a swift sign, since it is ruled by Mars, but it is also bold and courageous which inspires us to spur action, but as a cardinal sign, there are difficulties in sustaining this action. The Moon makes an opposition to Venus in Libra which can bring tension in dealing with diplomacy, compromise, agreements, and commitments. We find ourselves needing to compromise our impulsive actions and sudden outbursts with the Moon in Aries as a way to bring harmony, reconciliation, and unity. The main theme of this lunation is the tug between the self and the other. Me versus You. Aries and Libra show the affirmation of the self and ego versus the contraction and restraint of it. The themes of alliances, agreements, and partnerships are highlighted with Venus at home, and because she is in her domicile, she has more strength and consistency to bring balance and justice. The Moon will then oppose the Sun in a climactic Full Moon for Sunday night ET into Monday morning ET. This Full Moon highlights tension and contradiction in relationships and the urgency to take action while being considerate and deliberate of the consequences, especially as the Moon makes a sextile to Saturn to end the day. This Aries Moon brings a lot of fire for the weekend, and gets us motivated to act, make noise, and be loud. Confidence and boldness are the themes, and how that gets contrasted with expectations of diplomacy. Mars in Gemini as the ruler of this lunation has us eager to use our voice, communicate harshness, and potential extremity, divisiveness, and disputes within our words. October has two lunations (this Full Moon in Aries Oct 9th, and the Solar Eclipse in Scorpio on Oct 25th) that are both ruled by a Mars who is slowing down. Even though there is this fiery impulse that ignites action inside of us, we will have to think about ways to sustain this as we move forward through the rest of 2022. You can take a look at the house Aries rules in your chart to get a better ideas of what topics and themes are coming to a full culmination in your life this week.
After this lunation, Eclipse Season will officially start since the Moon will now be waning, loosing light, and receding to the New Moon, which will be an Eclipse because it is within 18º of the North or South Node (in this case the Eclipse at 2º Scorpio is within 18º of the South Node at 13º Scorpio). Mars is a planet of war, conflict, fighting, contention, and in Gemini it highlights disputes, contradiction, the need to take more urgency, initiative, harm that is brought towards media, news, journalist, reporters, scholars, libraries, learning, books, debates, schools, young kids, youth, etc. Mars as a malefic about to station Retrograde shows an intensification of conflict in the coming weeks. Gemini is a double bodied sign, which can indicate double, pairs, and things coming in 2’s. Whether it be having to chose between two things or “pick sides”, Mars wants us to firmly establish where we feel contrary to choosing peace and balance in Libra, and where we want authenticity, boldness, and how we can assert ourselves. Picking sides feels like the theme for all of October as it is Libra Season, but especially this week as the Moon in Aries urges us to ACT NOW!
