[1:45 AM ET] Venus in Virgo trine Pluto Retrograde at 26º09’ Capricorn
[1:58 PM ET] Mercury Retrograde conjoins Venus at 26º47’ Virgo
[3:33 PM ET] SYNODIC CYCLE: The Sun in Libra opposes Jupiter Retrograde at 03º41’ Aries
[10:54 PM ET] The Moon in Libra trine Mars at 18º40’ Gemini
[11:44 PM ET] The Moon in Libra trine Saturn Retrograde at 19º08’ Aquarius
On Monday, Mercury will conjoin Venus in Virgo starting off the week with some interesting news and information. For context around this conjunction, Venus and the Sun have been moving towards a conjunction for quite a while now, and Mercury recently went Retrograde, conjoined the Sun and passed over to the other side of the Sun and is now interfering in the connection between the Sun and Venus that was forming.
This configuration is known as CUTTING OF LIGHT by Abu Ma’shar. He lists that there are 3 types of cutting, the first way is if Planet A is applying to Planet B but before Planet A can make the connection to Planet B, a third planet, Planet C, interferes with the connection through its Retrogradation, and conjoins Planet B. It is said to indicate that there are circumstances represented by that planet that will stand in the way and prevent the previous circumstance/matter completing. Abu Ma’shar says “It indicates that it prepares for the owner of the sought matter a man who he was not paying attention to, so that he will corrupt his sought matter or cut him off from success in it.” (Great Introduction, trans. Dykes, VIII.5, 121-22)
When we think about this Mercury Retrograde, it is in context of what connection is currently forming between Venus and the Sun, anytime Venus conjoins the Sun it is in context of the larger 8 year Venus cycle. Think of how things are coming to a culmination and are shifting within the house Libra/Scorpio rule in your chart. The idea of justice, the idea of fairness, balance, reciprocating energy, compromise, these are all ruled by Venus. Whenever Venus conjoins the Sun, it is said to be reborn and starting a new cycle, but it also is a Cazimi. Cazimi is a transliteration of the Arabic, كصميمي, kasamimi, which has connotations of being warm, intimate, and close, and getting to the heart of a matter. The Sun is our mind, it is gnosis, consciousness, and the faculty of choice, agency, free will and self autonomy. A planet coming close to the Sun brings the things that planet represents close to our mind and the core of the matter of this moment in time. Getting to the heart of what Venus represents. Relationships, justice, beauty, balance, fairness, love, diplomacy, harmony, & reconciliation. However, Mercury shows us that there are some words, news, information, letters, trickery, deception, that prevent us from being able to achieve these goals. There is some change in logic, understanding, or an idea that is obstructing justice. Mercury shows us that we will need to go back and review things in the house Virgo rules in our chart and to see what idea, logic, and words are getting in the way of restoring balance. Mercury is the ruler of Venus in Virgo in this situation, and so Venus makes Mercury’s words even more persuasive and convincing. The motivations could be reviewing the past, rebelliousness, going against the convention, breaking rules and limitations. Mercury and Venus are clashing against each other since Mercury is moving Retrograde towards Venus and disrupting or obstructing Venus’s goals, so this can be a tense moment but Mercury is said to be benefic when with the benefic planets, and this is a bodily conjunction, so this could be good news for some, although I’m a little indifferent on the nature of this news. In the conjunction, Mercury overcomes Venus because Mercury rules Virgo, the sign they are both in, and Mercury tends to be more cold and dry, so there is a seriousness & critical approach with the news, details, and facts we are engaging with, since Mercury indicates there is contradiction, misinformation, trickery and scheming with accuracy of knowledge. Venus is going to be making a trine to Pluto, so there is an element of hiddenness in relationships, news, and information that can surface. The God of the Underworld is in contact with the Messenger and the Goddess of Love.
The Moon in Libra highlights this connection since its ruler is Venus, but it will make a trine to both Mars and Saturn during this time. The trine to Mars is a strong ignition of fire that comes in social situations, since Mars and the Moon are in Air Signs. In this overcoming position, Mars is able to deliver fire, inflammation, and speed to the Moon. Be careful of speeding and going too fast when driving. Especially because the Moon will then make a trine to Saturn which is a very contrasting feeling of needing to slow down and press the breaks, so to speak. Mars excites and incites urgency whereas Saturn slows down and introduces blocks. Mars introduces sudden outbursts, and Saturn introduces constriction. There is an emphasis on legal or contractual constriction since the Moon is in Libra, the sign of Saturn’s exaltation. In Libra, we see compromise, distribution, reconciliation, and selflessness required to engage in relationships. This is something that the Sun in Libra highlights today as it opposes Jupiter in Aries. This marks the halfway point in Jupiter’s Retrograde cycle, and it also marks the brightest Jupiter will get in the night sky (all planets are the brightest when they’re opposed the Sun). Jupiter is still Retrograde, but fully bright in the sky, so it indicates that things we have to go back and review where Jupiter is in the chart (the house Aries rules) and look at it with a clearer perspective. There’s something symbolic to be said about the fact that a planet opposite the Sun is the brightest it can possibly get, but at the same time hidden and invisible when rising above the horizon, and when setting. Because it is invisible both when rising and setting, it makes it more challenging for it to bring about its significations since there is a hidden element of this phase. Jupiter is a planet of vows, trust, faith, honesty, sharing, visions, dreams, freedom, and joy, and while opposite the Sun, these themes and how they play into the Aries/Libra axis of compromise and self. What are compromises that need to be made in dealing with expansion, growth, and creating community with others? Jupiter is said to alleviate all sorrow that Saturn brings, and it does this through bringing friendship, community, and building trust between people. We have the best look at what compromise needs to be made in order to remove hinderances that occurred in the house Aries rules in your chart. Jupiter does this through competition, contests, and challenge in Aries, and Jupiter finds this optimism restricted by some regulation, restriction, and sense of order.
Tuesday, Sept 27th
[8:56 AM ET] Mercury Retrograde in Virgo trine Pluto Retrograde at 26º08’ Capricorn
[12:20 PM ET] The Moon in Libra square Pluto Retrograde at 26º08’ Capricorn
[7:14 PM ET] INGRESS: The Moon enters Scorpio
On Tuesday, Mercury and the Moon will both come into contact with Pluto, which brings hidden feelings, secrets, and information to the surface. The Moon carries over the energy from Monday with Venus, Mercury, and Pluto to today. We become aware of the unequal power dynamics that are making it difficult to bring balance, justice, and fairness. The Moon will enter Scorpio which is the sign of its Fall/Depression, and it changes the tone mid-week for multiple reasons. In the Exaltation Scheme, nothing exalts in the sign of Scorpio because if the Moon is Depressed here, no one else is happy, since the Moon represents all things that are ensouled and material. However for the next few days, not only will the Moon be depressed, so will the Sun in Libra. This happens every time after the New Moon in Libra, the waxing moon will feature both luminaries are fallen. The Sun being Spirit and vitality and the Moon being the Material and physicality. What does that say about this moment in time that both of the luminaries are in states of being pushed down? Autumn. The Depression of the Sun and the Moon is reflective of the Season, as the heat decreases and the latitude of the Sun moves further South, it gets colder. The Moon being a principle of growth and life is in the sign of death and endings, just as the leaves fall of the trees after being dried out from the heat of the Summer. Each New Moon in Libra shows this moment in nature where it moves towards a state of balance from the excessive heat of the Summer. This configuration can be compared to the New Moon in Aries, where the few days following the New Moon, both the Sun and Moon will be exalted in Aries and Taurus, uplifted in their qualities. The Sun increases in heat in Aries, and the Moon is able to increase the growth of life. In this instance, the Moon increases (since she is waxing) death and decay and destruction of nature and life. Mars in Gemini is the ruler of this Moon, and as the Moon emerges from the Beams of the Sun, it highlights the current trine forming between Mars and Saturn which will go exact tomorrow on Wednesday.
Wednesday, Sept 28th
[1:48 AM ET] Mars in Gemini trine Saturn Retrograde at 19º05’ Aquarius
[7:42 PM ET] The Moon conjoins the South Node at 13º47’ Scorpio
On Wednesday, Mars will make a trine to Saturn in Gemini, and as the ruler of this waxing Moon in Scorpio, it shows issues with winds, air, and storms. Mars is in Gemini and according to Al-Biruni, it says that it represents gentle and sweet breezes that are exacerbated by Mars’ presence in Gemini, bring hot winds, and tempestuous storms. I currently live in Florida and we’re anticipating Hurricane Ian to hit Central Florida and the malefics in the Air Signs definitely feels like an omen of the destruction wind and air as an element can cause when the malefics are present here. I’m anticipating it to be quite challenging since the Moon is in Scorpio, and the conditions of nature are in a state of decay, ending, and death. The natural cycle of life is that things are destroyed by weather and disaster, and this is what this waxing moon indicates. Mars can be quite brutal, but Saturn is in the overcoming position making a trine to Mars also exacerbates the harshness since Saturn is a malefic. Vettius Valens in Book II of their Anthologies says that this aspect in nativities indicates
“Kronos trine Ares signifies those who are unstable in their mode of living and those unable to work, and it produces those who are sluggish in actions and those who are violent, or those with few children or those who destroy their offspring; furthermore, they are taken prisoner or are injured.”
There’s a few things that make sense in this description that get to the core of this interaction, those who are unable to work, since Saturn is this planet of restrictions and Mars is typically associated with labor, and in the trine aspect Mars must accept the circumstances and conditions of restrictions that Saturn created in the square (August 7th is when they squared at 22º Aquarius (Saturn)/ 22º Taurus (Mars). Also sluggishness in action, I can see this from how Saturn is slowing down Mars in action here. This contrast is especially important with this aspect since Saturn slows down and Mars speeds up. And in this case, Saturn’s overcoming position causes Mars to be slowed down. The violent and malevolent nature comes from the fact that these are malefics in contact with each other, and being taken prisoner is also an instance of Saturn as this restricting force restricting the will and the actions of Mars through force. Injury is typically associated with Mars and chronic or long lasting illnesses are associated with Saturn, having them both in trine makes it very easy for illness to spread through the air. Going to prison is also on brand for this transit because Saturn is said to represent chains, prison, & captivity especially since it rejoices in the 12th house, but it is restraining Mars as the violent and malefic omen. I’m eyeing Donald Trump’s Chart for this aspect especially since the 3rd and final trine of these after the Mars Retrograde will take place in Pisces/Cancer which falls in his 12th/9th house. Saturn in this overcoming trine to Mars shows an element of secrecy in someone’s actions or motivations since Saturn represents obscure and hidden things and it conceals Mars’ actions. Mars in Gemini indicates disputes and contradictions, and with Saturn, it is over things that have happened in private/secret. This can also be a reference to secret plots and hidden schemes, since the malefics are said to be scheming. Saturn is currently Retrograde, and one of the interesting things the latin Picatrix says about Saturn Retrograde in aspect is that it gives its corrupting nature to the planets it has contact with. The challenges with infrastructure, issues with government corruption, instability, restriction, and brittleness in structure are then passed onto Mars. This will be the first out of three trines that take place. The next one will be on November 28th, 2022 at this same degree, 19º Aquarius/Gemini, and then again on March 31st, 2023 with Mars at 2º Cancer and Saturn at 2º Pisces. This Mars Retrograde introduces disputes and challenges that will eventually set up the conditions and circumstances to come for the next 2 1/2 years when Saturn is in Pisces, which will change to harm and challenges brought with water and liquids since Pisces/Cancer are water signs. This Moon in Scorpio really introduces challenges that set up the bulk of what this Mars Retrograde is about, since this is the major aspect Mars will highlight over the course of the Retrograde. The Moon will conjoin the South Node towards the end of the day, and the South Node is this point in the sky where the Moon starts descending in latitude (relative to the Ecliptic, the apparent path the Sun makes around Earth), representing some decrease and destruction within life, growth, and nature. The Moon represents the physical body of not only people, but nature, animals, and anything that has life, and when it is in this challenging position it shows how the things that have form and vitality are cut off, harmed, and damaged by the influence of Mars. Scorpio represents this part of the year that symbolizes death and decay, and this cutting off of the life force the same way leaves fall from the tree to the ground and turn brown, red, yellow, and all other colors symbolizes the coldness that death brings. The Moon on the South Node reinforces this idea of decrease and decay even more.
Thursday, Sept 29th
[3:49 AM ET] INGRESS: Venus enters Libra
[3:49 AM ET] The Moon in Scorpio opposes Uranus Retrograde at 18º24’ Taurus
[4:57 AM ET] The Moon in Scorpio square Saturn Retrograde at 19º03’ Aquarius
[2:57 PM ET] The Moon in Scorpio sextile Mercury Retrograde at 24º26’ Virgo
On Thursday, the Moon will still be in Scorpio and it moves towards and opposition to Uranus, bringing unexpected disruption, shocking, and chaotic energy in the morning, which happens simultaneously as Venus enters Libra, moving from the sign of her Depression in Virgo to the sign of her Domicile in Libra, where she is at home and supported, and has resources to bring about the things she represents. Venus is the planet of justice, beauty, balance, diplomacy, fairness, compassion, consideration, and compromise. Venus will have more resource to be able to bring about the things she represents now that she has returned back home. However, she is not without company in this sign, since the Sun is currently in Libra. This is a very interesting dynamic because Venus is the domicile lord of Libra, and the Sun is Depressed in this sign, so we have one planet who is happy to be home, and has their worst enemy inside of their house. While Venus ultimately manages the affairs of what goes on in this sign, she is currently moving towards a conjunction to the Sun (which goes exact on Oct 21st & 22nd, 2022) but in the meantime she is Combust by being within 7.5º of a conjunction. When a planet is combust, it is said to be consumed by the fire of the Sun by being too close to the body of the Sun, and it becomes weakened and disempowered because it is overwhelmed by heat. Abu Sa’id Shadhan who is a student of Abu Ma’shar in Discourses on the Secrets of Astrology with Abu Ma’shar said that when Venus is under the beams of the Sun that it is disempowered even more because Venus is nature moist and wet and because her nature does not mesh with the heat of the Sun, Venus’s moisture evaporates. With this context being said, its safe to say this Venus in Libra transit will be quite overwhelming for Venus, but she is armed with the resources to address these issues. The Sun in Libra is said to be represented by a king who is despised by their people, since it is a Fallen Sun according to Abu Ma’shar. The excessive force of the Sun, representing ego, self, and center is not valued by Venus here, who values balance, lack of ego, the other, and reconciliation between others, and they now start their meeting with Venus’ ingress into Libra. There is a hidden element to the actions Venus takes in this sign in order to restore diplomacy and justice because she is hidden underneath the beams and has disappeared from the sky. This can also talk about having to hide relationships, love, or desires/interests, or engage in these matters in private, because Venus is hidden. Venus is restricting the will and outcasting rulers and leaders in doing so since the Sun is outcasted here. Venus is a planet of peace but there can be no peace without justice. This is definitely an omen where Venus is trying to restore some justice of a ruler or leader that has been excessively selfish and egotistical, and is shamed for these qualities. The scales tip, and they will be in Venus’ favor, because Venus will conjoin the Sun in the sign of Libra. Every new beginning has to start somewhere.
The Moon will then make a square to Saturn in Aquarius, which shows conflict and challenges with infrastructure, stability, the body, and physical conditions. Saturn shows foundational challenges and injuries towards the body here. The Moon is highlighting a very important square that is closing together between Saturn and Uranus that is the 4th and final one before Saturn leaves Aquarius. The Saturn/Uranus cycle is a much longer cycle, and they haven’t conjoined since October 18th, 1988. This date was the beginning of their cycle of conjunctions that hasn’t been completed since. The next time they will conjoin will be on June 28th, 2032. This is a 45 year cycle of major disruption, change, and upheaval in structures in society, and this week hosts the last major square of this larger 45 year cycle that started in the 80s. 2022 is a full culmination of plans that have been set in place since 1980s. Just think about that and the moment of time we’re in currently. The Saturn/Uranus square for 2022 will not go exact but will get within 37’ (arc minutes) of a square, not exact but very close. This will get the closest next week on October 4th, but the Moon in Scorpio highlights this configuration today. The Moon shows a pause, break, or stop that is coming, and then the Moon will connect with Mercury who is currently Retrograde. The Moon shows that we need to find different ways to communicate and understanding information since Mercury is Retrograde in Virgo. There are challenges and interruptions in communication since Mercury is Retrograding, and we become introduced to them especially since Mercury is getting ready to exit the Sun’s Beams. The Moon in Scorpio can signify emotional somberness, pain, and hurt feelings, and we’re finding a way to revisit how words or things people have said that have hurt us. The tongue is definitely sharp in Scorpio (since Mars is the ruler) and Mercury Retrograde brings trickery. The sting of the Scorpion is felt in the tongue today.
Friday, Sept 30th
[12:03 AM ET] INGRESS: The Moon enters Sagittarius
[2:03 AM ET ] The Moon in Sagittarius sextile Venus at 01º09’ Libra
[5:38 AM ET] The Moon in Sagittarius trine Jupiter Retrograde at 03º12’ Aries
[1:05 PM ET] The Moon in Sagittarius sextile The Sun at 07º31’ Libra
On Friday, the vibe will change as the Moon enters Sagittarius and it will be ruled by Jupiter which lightens the mood. This is a nice introduction to Venus in Libra since the Moon will make a sextile to Venus in her domicile. Sagittarius is the sign of visions, beliefs, philosophy, but as a Fire Sign ruled by Jupiter, it shares and disperses the fire, the vision, and the wisdom it has with others. Sagittarius is said to be a sign of freedom, liberation, and joy but as a planet it alleviates sorrow through bringing enthusiasm, hype, and attention. The Moon in Sagittarius is able to inspire hype, bring attention, and desire justice + balance when connecting with Venus in Libra. This is a really nice aspect today, especially since right after the Moon will make a trine to its domicile lord, Jupiter in Aries. The Moon highlights the Venus/Jupiter opposition that is forming this week and goes exact tomorrow on October 1st. This opposition shows tension within morals and justice. Jupiter and Venus are both benefics and the can benefit from each other in the opposition, Where there may have been challenges with our ability to form faith and trust with Jupiter since the Retrograde, Venus in Libra is able to help in restore some justice and balance to the challenges with diplomacy, fairness, and compromise. The themes of belief, faith, truth and honest in relationships are highlighted by this Venus/Jupiter opposition. The Moon makes a sextile to the Sun in Libra which shows the beginning and opening of the lunation cycle. There is an emphasis on law, legal orders, and government related topics and topics centered around justice, fairness, and things to be balanced. Venus in this case is a strong diplomat who is overwhelmed by stress because the person they are representing because they are not just and fair in their actions (the Sun fallen in Libra) and are somewhat dissatisfied with their presence. Aries (the Sun’s Exaltation) is the sign of ego, willpower, and self and Libra is the sign of social order (Saturn’s exaltation) that restricts the willpower and inhibits action. The benefics show a balancing to what harm & corruption with trust, vows, and honesty was initiated when Jupiter and Mars conjoined at 3º Aries on May 29th, 2022.
Saturday, Oct 1st
[8:47 AM ET] The Moon in Sagittarius sextile Saturn Retrograde at 18º58’ Aquarius
[11:03 AM ET] The Moon in Sagittarius opposes Mars at 20º17’ Gemini
[2:11 PM ET] Venus in Libra opposes Jupiter Retrograde at 03º02’ Aries
[4:44 PM ET] The Moon in Sagittarius square Neptune Retrograde at 23º37’ Pisces
[5:46 PM ET] The Moon in Sagittarius square Mercury Retrograde at 24º13’ Virgo
To begin the week, October first, the Moon in Sagittarius will make a sextile to Saturn as the first malefic interaction of the day. In agreement with rules, regulations, and restrictions the Moon cooperates with Saturn, however it is in swift opposition to Mars in Gemini. The Moon is already inflamed by being in a Fire Sign and waxing, so she is increasing in heat, but the Moon in Sagittarius represents truth being hurt and harmed because of dispute, conflict in truth, and arguments over facts versus truth. Bringing justice or balance is the themes as the Moon highlighted the Venus/Jupiter opposition yesterday, but that aspect goes exact today. The Moon opposing Mars always portends for conflict, competition, challenges, fights, and physical labor. There can be stress on the physical body and mental exhaustion since the Moon is the body and Mars in the opposition harms the Moon. Anxiety and overthinking with Mars in Gemini can bring inflammatory effects towards the body. The Moon in Sagittarius will then make a square to Neptune and Mercury who are both Retrograding through their respective signs. The Moon then highlights the forming opposition between Mercury and Neptune where Mercury is revisiting and looking back at something (Neptune) that has been twisting the facts, details, and information, and creating illusions, clouds, and perceptive blockages that dissolve discernment and separation. Neptune shows an influence of clouding judgement and facts that are being revisited and the Moon shows the tension in truth, perception, and honesty in Sagittarius. There are lots of disputes, disagreements, and tension with facts, data, and knowledge. Mercury and Mars are also in a whole sign square, which can indicate friction, fire, and inflammation in speech, communication, and delivery. There is a sharpness to our speech and a quickness to our criticism that is being revisited since Mercury is back in its domicile. The Moon in Sagittarius shows the distortion of truth. The nature of the day is Mutable since the Moon is in a mutable sign, and for the past few days. Sagittarius is quick towards accepting something as a truth, but forgetful at the same time. It is a mutable sign after all, and shares the double bodied nature of being half Centaur/Human. Things spreading like wildfire is what Sagittarius is, fire what grows, catches on to others, and spreads far. Sagittarius builds hype and it builds attention.
Sunday, Oct 2nd
[3:37 AM ET] INGRESS: The Moon enters Capricorn
[5:07 AM ET] STATION: Mercury stations Direct at 24º11’ Virgo
[8:36 AM ET] The Moon in Capricorn square Jupiter Retrograde at 02º55’ Aries
[10:35 AM ET] The Moon in Capricorn square Venus at 04º05’ Libra
[8:14 PM ET] The Moon in Capricorn square The Sun at 09º45’ Libra
After the very fiery, and enthusiastic Sagittarius Moon, the Moon will then enter into the somber, serious, and grounded sign Capricorn, ruled by Saturn just as Mercury gets ready to station Direct in Virgo early in the morning. Mercury’s station in Virgo starts off October with removal of hindrances, challenges, and delays in the house Virgo/Libra rule in your chart. Mercury stationing Direct is a supportive day since Mercury will no longer be delayed in being able to deliver news, accuracy in details, facts, and information. Now shining as a morning star, Mercury is swift, renewed, and reborn after its conjunction to the Sun, and it will eventually become revealed as the Sun moves further away from the stationed planet, revealing it in the morning sky before Sunrise. The Moon in Capricorn connects to a square with Jupiter and to Venus, and it highlights this tension of the Jupiter/Venus opposition, dealing with challenges of action and restraint, bringing justice and enacting on promises and vows. The Moon will be square the Sun in Libra as well, which is one of these major moment of tension for the month (again at the opposition, square, and conjunction of the Sun + Moon). The Moon is our circumstances, fate, and the material world, and the Sun is our will and our knowledge, and whenever the Sun and Moon are square each other, there are challenges with our will, action, and increase in confidence as the Moon is waxing. The circumstances (the Moon) and the willpower (the Sun) are not in alignment, but are in disagreement. They share a common lord, Saturn as the exaltation lord of Libra for the Sun, and Saturn as the lord of Capricorn for the Moon, and Saturn is currently Retrograding but will station letter in the month (Oct 23rd, 2022) so we find restrictions, challenges with infrastructure, stability, and foundations to be the reason why our circumstances are in disagreement. The Moon in Capricorn is particular a colder Moon since the waxing square during Libra introduces more of the winter coldness Saturn and Capricorn is associated with. There is an emphasis on inhibition, and it is somewhat serious, can be depressing at the worst, but there is restraint. The Moon will aspect both of the benefics today though, so there is the opportunity to bring justice, order, and balance since Venus is super dignified, but we might find it comes with some contention and strife. The scales are discerning and desire not just balance but justice. The tone is serious, and Saturn is cold. Libra and Capricorn are very similar in this way because they both share Saturn as a common ruler, and they are both cardinal signs. The coldness of Saturn is constriction, restraint, and it freezes. We’re forced to get grounded and think more long term about our plans, goals, and ambitions today. The Moon in Capricorn urges us to conceptualize time in terms of longevity and sustainability for the future. This day can feel energizing and zealous when the Moon squares Jupiter, and soothing + balming when it squares Venus, but constrictive when it squares the Sun.
