Week 31: August 2022 Week 1, The Week Ahead Horoscope
The Moon is new this week & is back in the evening sky. Mars is shaking up the system conjoining Uranus & squaring Saturn. Mercury returns back to sky as an Evening Star in its home sign Virgo
Introduction
This week, the Moon is waxing and gaining light, after being renewed over the weekend from the conjunction to the Sun. This lunation, and what arises this week, shows a pivotal moment in this year, and with the nodal cycle. Because the Nodes are in Taurus and Scorpio, their bendings (the North bending where the Moon is the furthest north of the Sun, and the South Bending where the Moon is the furthest south of the Sun) are going to be in Leo/Aquarius. The North Bending is in Leo and the South Bending is located in Aquarius. Because the Sun is currently at the North Bending in Leo, it activates this Eclipse cycle because the two half phases of the Moon will take place in the signs of the Nodes (Waxing Half in Scorpio, Waning Half in Taurus). The Moon activates the next part of the Eclipse story in the houses Taurus/Scorpio rule in your chart with this upcoming week as the Moon will move from Virgo through Sagittarius by this week. Taurus gets especially highlighted this month with the Mars, Uranus, and North Node conjunction which goes exact at the beginning of the month, and then the Moon in Scorpio comes in to activate it when it enters Scorpio on Friday. The North Node has been exacerbating the themes of Uranus in Taurus they move towards their conjunction, and Uranus has been trying to bring revolution, change, breakthroughs, shaking things up and doing things differently in the sign of Taurus. We might feel this intensified desire to do things differently and to prioritize comfort when that has been in a state of disruption. Taurus is an Earth Sign so it deals with things that relate to land, material resources, physical & tangible things, and how Uranus in Taurus has been highlighting instability in resources, with supply chains, labor, etc. This tension between Saturn and Uranus has been building since 2020, but we’re coming close to another almost perfect square later in September. Mars coming in to join in on the actions stresses a sense of urgency that things need to change. Mars always sounds the alarm, and it can be quite unexpected during this week. With Uranus things are always disruptive and unexpected. We find ourselves needing to break out and disrupt the status quo that Saturn has set for us. Saturn can represent structure, stability, status quo, and where we may feel that foundations are not as stable in the house Aquarius rules in our chart. Mars and Saturn’s square is something that is building throughout all of this week, and will go exact on Sunday. Mars is taking the volatility and insatiable need to shake shit up from Uranus and bring it to our existing notions, ideas, and beliefs that get shattered by Mars’ sword. This is the opening square of a larger 2 year cycle between Saturn and Mars. The square represents the beginning of challenges and tension between Mars and Saturn, which represent the shaking of foundations and disruption of authority. Some ancient astrologers say this configuration can be indicative of robbers & thieves. Their opposition which is another climax in this tension takes place in 2023 but will shift from fixed Taurus/Aquarius to mutable Virgo/Pisces when Saturn enters Pisces in 2023. These aspects are the crux of the week as the Moon spends the middle part of the week in Scorpio. So let’s dive into the Astro Weather. Enjoy this graphic of the larger Mars/Saturn cycle that takes place from 2022-2023 below.
Monday, Aug 1st
[1:34 AM ET] The Moon in Virgo trine Mars at 18º13’ Taurus
[2:29 AM ET] The Moon in Virgo trine Uranus at 18º41’ Taurus
[2:04 PM ET] Mars conjoins The North Node at 18º33’ Taurus
[2:50 PM ET] The Moon in Virgo opposes Neptune Retrograde at 25º08’ Pisces
[7:53 PM ET] Mars conjoins Uranus at 18º42’ Taurus
Monday is the day of the Mars/Uranus conjunction in Taurus, and the themes of resource instability, volatility in our needs for comfort, nourishment, and support that has been building since July 5th when Mars initially ingresses into this sign, all comes to a peak on Monday. The Moon is able to witness this aspect from a trine while in Virgo, showing that because of whatever instability is happening in Fixed Earth, it causes us to need to be critical about solutions and problem solving with Virgo being Mutable Earth. Virgo being a sign of mutable earth definitely speaks to the destabilizing influence that Mercury has over this sign, and it doubly emphasizes the nature of the Mars/Uranus/North Node conjunction currently going on. We may be forced to break out of seeing things unclearly, needing to practice more discernment, but also the Moon being ruled by a Mercury who is getting ready to commit phasis and emerge from the beams of the Sun as an Evening Star, delivering news and making statements. The news that Mercury has to talk about is in regards to whatever took place during the Mercury besiegement last week when Mercury was moving between the aspects of Mars and Saturn (from Tuesday to Sunday last week). Mercury will make an appearance on the Fixed Star Regulus, so there is emphasis on a royal, important, statement coming from the heart, and circumstances where speaking from the heart is necessary. Practicing integrity with the way one delivers information and communication are all highlighted this week. Mars conjoining the North Node today may bring an element of confusion in terms of the motives for one’s insatiable craving for change. The North Node increases & amplifies the malevolence of Mars, which can also show as an increase in exhaustion, since Mars as a planet who typically has physical vigor and spurs action is under resourced, potentially in a state of fatigue. It is a wake up call to re-evaluate the sustainability of how you are currently resourcing yourself and your community around you, and what needs to be done differently. What structures need to be challenged? Mars will answer that question moving forward as it heads towards the square with Saturn.
Tuesday, Aug 2nd
[12:05 AM ET] INGRESS: The Moon enters Libra
[8:25 AM ET] Venus in Cancer sextile Uranus at 18º43’ Taurus
[4:27 PM ET] The Moon in Libra opposes Jupiter Retrograde at 08º40’ Aries
[8:12 PM ET] The Moon in Libra sextile the Sun at 10º40’ Leo
[9:59 PM ET] Venus in Cancer sextile Mars at 19º24’ Taurus
On Tuesday, we get a change of pace as the Moon enters Libra. The Moon will be ruled by Venus in Cancer, so both the Moon and Venus will be in a mutual reception with each other from Tuesday to Thursday. This mutual reception between the planets goes exact on Wednesday, but it is building throughout all of Tuesday. Before this, the Moon will oppose Jupiter Retrograding through Aries now. Jupiter gives us some wisdom and opportunity to re-think about how we bring justice, balance, and order in our lives. We may get some advice, good news, and wisdom from another party. Jupiter is who we meet on Tuesday. The Moon activates the trine between Jupiter and the Sun that went exact this past Sunday. Jupiter and the Sun both offer support to the Moon, providing the Moon with confidence, leadership, knowledge, and affirmation in action. The Moon in Libra is always a good time for seeking peace, balance, harmony, and any efforts towards diplomacy. It is also good for love, sex, romance, making friends, giggling, music, art, dance, and creativity. If you’re looking to be recognized, seen, and affirmed by others in a way that feels authentic to your values, your emotional needs, and how you want to be cared for: today is the day. Venus will also make a sextile to Mars today too, which brings support to Mars to address these issues of instability, but Mars is left feeling a little confused about the resources Venus is providing, since Venus is in the sign that Mars is Fallen in (Cancer).
Wednesday, Aug 3rd
[1:54 PM ET] The Moon in Libra square Venus at 20º12’ Cancer
[6:28 PM ET] The Moon in Libra trine Saturn Retrograde at 22º42’ Aquarius
On Wednesday, the Moon and Venus will be put in a square with each other, with Venus in the 10th position. This is a really great time for getting support, help, seeing friends, and gaining the favor of others. The Moon and Venus in each other’s signs are in a position where they want to share and compromise, especially because the Moon and Venus are friends. Cancer and Libra together show compassion, care, justice, balance, and the need for things to be equal. This can be great for getting a promotion, raise, or support from your community. Engaging in creative works, such as art, dance, music, etc. are all great to do today. This is especially a great day for love and relationships. The Moon and Venus in mutual reception shows that two people are mutually sympathetic with each other’s desires and needs. As the Moon makes a trine to Saturn, it gives us an opportunity to get serious about the commitments and opportunities Venus brought up for us earlier in the day. Saturn gives us the ability to think things through, foresee consequences, and understand hidden knowledge. Acting with responsibility, integrity, and caution is always encouraged. Since Saturn is Retrograde, this trine gives us an opportunity to re-evaluate how balanced things are in the houses Cancer/Libra rule in our chart, which will become relevant later in the month when Mercury enters Libra.
Thursday, Aug 4th
[2:19 AM ET] The Moon in Libra square Pluto at 26º59’ Capricorn
[2:57 AM ET] INGRESS: Mercury enters Virgo
[7:46 AM ET] INGRESS: The Moon enters Scorpio
[8:28 AM ET] The Moon in Scorpio sextile Mercury at 00º23’ Virgo
On Thursday, things take a change of pace as the Moon squares Pluto. Things can get pretty intense in the middle of the night, either feeling paranoid, uneasy, dealing with really deep-seated and tumultuous emotions. Planets moving out of cardinal signs have had to content with this hard aspect to Pluto for this year, and its been rough especially since the Moon enters Scorpio, and enters into the sign of its Depression, where its qualities and the things it represents are being worked against and repressed. On the other hand, Mercury goes from being besieged in Leo, by forming a square to Mars and then an opposition to Saturn, to then going into the sign of its Domicile in Virgo. Mercury is actually doing something pretty special today (and really for this week) where Mercury, after conjoining the Sun on July 18th, is now making an appearance in the sky, visible only during the evening sky. After our minds and nervous system feeling very inflamed and burnt out in Leo, Mercury comes into its home sign, where it has responsibility, but gains strength to be able to take information, analyze it, see what things need to be tweaked, and execute a plan of action. Mercury’s earthy domicile in Virgo differs from its airy domicile in Gemini because in Gemini, Mercury discusses and learns new information, curiosity becomes the driving force in Gemini, and the expansion of the mind. Whereas in Virgo, we become much more concerned with cutting down on what information is useful and what is not. Mercury is able to use knowledge, technique, and skills that are learned and is able to produce a physical output. Virgo is the season of the harvest, and it describes the way wheat is transformed into bread with the acquired knowledge of baking. The practical application of knowledge for usefulness to make life easier is what Virgo is about. Mercury coming back home is great for Mercurial matters, such as studying, learning, taking care of numbers, writing, communications, and speaking. Mercury is able to give us a sharpness, accuracy, and precision with how we articulate and translate our earthly experiences into words. For a brief moment, the Sun and Mercury are both in signs of dignity. We are called to be more critical, discerning, and engage in the rationale mind with this transit. In contrast to the strengthened Mercury, we find that the Moon entering Scorpio enters into a sign where it is Depressed and pushed down. When planets are in their Exile or Depression, it indicates that these planets are not provided with the resources they need bring about the things they represent. The Moon represents the physical body, sustenance, and revelations. We may be more inclined to learn about secrets or hidden matters during this time, and especially receive some news about them since the Moon’s next aspect it makes is an opening sextile to Mercury. We will have to address issues where we physically feel depleted, at a loss of energy, and resources and find ways to be resourceful in finding solutions.
Friday, Aug 5th
[7:06 AM ET] The Moon in Scorpio square the Sun at 13º01’ Leo
[4:31 PM ET] The Moon conjoins the South Node at 18º22’ Scorpio
[5:13 PM ET] The Moon in Scorpio opposes Uranus at 18º46’ Taurus
[9:37 PM ET] The Moon in Scorpio opposes Mars at 21º18’ Taurus
[11:46 PM ET] The Moon in Scorpio square Saturn Retrograde at 22º32’ Aquarius
On Friday, the Moon’s first aspect is a square to the Sun, which starts off the day with a conflict with our physical and material needs and with what our will & spirit wants to do. Any day the Moon and Sun square each other, it is a day of conflict, strife, and some ancient astrologers claim that this square has the same power as Mars squaring Saturn (which brings up issues with challenging authority, structures, and pushing back against the restricting or binding force of rules, regulations, and limitations). The Moon gains more confidence in the sign of Scorpio in addressing the challenges within this sign. This day is one of the major ones in the week because the Moon is overpowered by the Sun today, bringing visibility to something to maybe we originally kept secret, since Scorpio is the sign of secrets and Leo is the sign of visibility. We may find today is filled with struggles with power and authority. Our physical body and needs are in conflict with our spirit, actions, and mind. We find conflict and challenges with being seen, visibility, and privacy. The Moon also opposes Uranus and Mars who recently had their conjunction, so whatever was activated and promised earlier in the week by their conjunction will have taken form in a physical event by today. The Moon opposing Mars portends for fights, conflict, contention, and strife within our relationships with others about possessions, physical things, ownership, resources, and feeling sustained and supported. The Moon and Mars are both in a mutual reception right now, the Moon is in Scorpio, which is the domicile of Mars, and Mars is in the exaltation of the Moon in Taurus. This is a moment where things look very malnourished and not taken care of. It’s reminiscent of the Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio that took place on May 16th which highlighted the malnourishment that can be felt in the house Scorpio rules in your chart. Unexpected disruptions can come up especially because Uranus will be met in the opposition aspect as well. The Moon will be besieged for this short period of time (like 2 hours) because the next aspect the Moon will make is a square to Saturn, showcasing injury, breaking of structure, brittleness, instability, blockages, delays, and serious disposition. Be careful of physical injury during this time, danger, risks, and conflict with others. Any conflict that is started will not end well while the Moon is in Scorpio. The day starts off rough and it ends rough. The malefics are hyperactive on Friday. This is also Mars’ night, since all of the planets rule a day, they also rule over a night, and Friday Night is Mars’ night. This will probably be one of the more tense days of the week, and we really feel the disruption of Mars and Saturn today.
Saturday, Aug 6th
[12:56 AM ET] The Moon in Scorpio trine Venus at 23º12’ Cancer
[12:38 PM ET] INGRESS: The Moon enters Sagittarius
[8:18 PM ET] The Moon in Sagittarius square Mercury at 04º29’ Virgo
On Saturday, the Moon is still moving through Scorpio, and after its temporary besiegement, the Moon receives an overcoming trine from Venus, which can be great for providing repair and support to whatever long term or chronic issues we left yesterday with. The Moon is able to receive Venus since Venus is in the Moon’s sign, and this can feel something like soothing a burn or sting. Venus provides a cooling element to the irritation we may feel the with the Moon. We can end the transit of the Moon through Scorpio with a cathartic release of pain and emotion. The Moon will be running through the void for around 8 hours, and then it enters Sagittarius, where it will come to square Mercury towards the end of the day. The square between Sagittarius and Virgo makes me think a lot between the idea of discernment with Virgo and truthfulness with Sagittarius, specifically when it comes to information, knowledge. There is an argumentative nature to this square, where the Moon in Sagittarius seeks adventure, thrill, and freedom, and Mercury in Virgo seeks to discern, question, analyze, and have a plan. Debates, arguments, and discourse can trigger anger and inflame our connections. This is a great time to make changes to your plans with the abundance of mutable energy, taking care of tasks, daily activities of life, maintenance, learning, education, writing, and specifically editing. We get an opportunity to sift through our ideas and see which ones fall in line with our visions for the future, and which ones are not. Discernment is your friend today.
Sunday, Aug 7th
[3:11 AM ET] The Moon in Sagittarius trine Jupiter at 08º34’ Aries
[12:43 PM ET] Venus in Cancer trine Neptune at 25º01’ Pisces
[2:21 PM ET] The Moon in Sagittarius trine the Sun at 15º14’ Leo
[3:56 PM ET] Mars in Taurus square Saturn Retrograde at 22º24’ Aquarius
As we wrap up the end of this week, the Moon makes a trine to Jupiter which gives us the opportunity to rethink our perspective of how we want to cultivate growth, support, and friendship in our life. The Moon completes a really nice Grand Fire Trine on Sunday which spurs up potentially a lot of energy, lots of heat, and lots of dryness. We find ourselves needing to take action. Because Jupiter is Retrograde currently, a lot of this Sagittarius Moon is going to be focused on rethinking perspective, changing our beliefs and existing notions. We find ourselves feeling a lot more bold and having to confront our beliefs head on. The Sun making a trine to the Moon is great because it puts both the Luminaries in agreement with each other, in regards to what action needs to take place. We see that our body and spirit are in alignment and in harmony today. The Sun gives us confidence and strength to be able to resist against the challenges that the Mars/Saturn square gives us today. While we have a lot of support for fire to build and be released, Mars finds its will being restrained, restricted, and having limits imposed on it, since Saturn is said to be in the overcoming position. Mars wants to spur action and initiate change, but it has to confront the orthodoxy that Saturn is fixing in Aquarius. Saturn is Retrograde, and its returning back to the same degree that it conjoined Mars when they conjoined on April 4th, which is 22º Aquarius. This shows us that whatever seeds were planted, that had indications for the shaking of foundations, challenges in stability, cracks in infrastructure. We find that whatever was started in April comes to a major point of tension today on August 7th, but as we have discussed earlier, this has been building throughout the entire week. With this Grand Fire Trine taking place on the same day, it seems like a very clear omen to think a lot about how you authentically want to show up and take bold action, express anger, and frustration against the systems of infrastructure that have failed to provide access to resources to your ability to sustain the work and energy you use. This square may be reminiscent of the same square that happened in this sign on Jan 13th, 2021 which indicated a shaking in infrastructure. Think about what unexpected changes happened in the houses Taurus/Aquarius rule in your chart, how this square impact those house topics in your life back then, versus where you are now, in regards to the same topics. After this week, we will have gotten through some of the roughest astro-weather of the year (although there is more coming up in October). Moving forward from here, the tension that has been building in the house Taurus rules in your chart will start to release as Mars separates & moves away from the square to Saturn for the rest of the month.
