Week 3: January 2023 Week 3, The Week Ahead Horoscope
Mercury and Uranus station Direct this week. We have a New Moon in Aquarius right as Venus conjoins Saturn. Lots of new beginnings and forward motion fill the energy of the week.
Introduction
This week, Mercury finally stations Direct after kicking off the New Year Retrograding through Capricorn. We find more clarity with the information we’re consuming, documents, learning, speech, and how we communicate with each other. Mercury brings important information as it emerges from the Sun’s Beams and becomes visible as a morning star. With Mars stationing Direct last week, we get a week filled new beginnings. The astrology provides us a reset with the New Moon in Aquarius this weekend. This lunation highlights a trine to Mars stationed in the sky, and Venus’ conjunction to Saturn in Aquarius that goes exact on Sunday. Major Fixed Sign activation makes way for Week 3 of 2023.
Monday Jan 16th
[1:32 AM ET] The Moon conjoins the South Node at 10º04’ Scorpio
[2:09 PM ET] The Moon in Scorpio square Venus at 17º08’ Aquarius
On Monday, the Moon will continue to traverse through Scorpio, the sign of her Depression, where the qualities she represents, safety, security, and physical nourishment, are weakened and not supported in this Martial environment. The Moon will conjoin the South Node going into Monday Morning ET, which further depletes us of physical vitality and brings an exhaustive attitude on the Moon’s Day. The South Node consumes and depletes the planets it comes into contact with, and when it conjoins the Moon it further depletes the qualities of care, stability, and nourishment that the Moon desires to bring.
Right after the Moon makes this conjunction and starts descending in latitude, she makes a square to Venus in Aquarius. Venus in Aquarius brings a serious attitude towards relationships as she conjoins Saturn by the end of the week. Secrecy, privacy, and hidden matters can influence us to feel less connected in our relationships with others. Typically, the Moon squaring Venus is a good aspect since Venus can support the Moon, but there is a colder and reserved nature to the Scorpio/Aquarius square. This can make someone apprehensive in lending their trust or vulnerability towards others, being avoidant and distant in relationships. It is a good time for opening up about hurtful emotions and experiences within your partnerships now. The Moon in Scorpio really highlights what doesn’t feel good, since she is Depressed, while Venus in Aquarius highlights the dynamic of interconnected relationships and the consequences of their actions. The Moon will remain in Scorpio for the entirety of the day but it will forming a square to Saturn. The aspect won’t perfect today, but a few hours after midnight ET tomorrow, expect things to progressively get exhaustive, serious, and physically depleting. Make extra efforts to take care of your body during this time, since the Moon in Scorpio shows the lack of care applied to nourish the body.
Tuesday Jan 17th
[2:27 AM ET] The Moon in Scorpio square Saturn at 24º09’ Aquarius
[7:35 AM ET] The Moon in Scorpio sextile the Sun at 27º07’ Capricorn
[12:32 PM ET] INGRESS: The Moon enters Sagittarius
[6:41 PM ET] The Moon in Sagittarius trine Jupiter at 03º35’ Aries
On Tuesday, the Moon in Scorpio will perfect its applying square to Saturn in Aquarius. A planet that is in its fall is like someone who has encountered some hinderance, but when it aspects a malefic from a hard aspect, its as if another challenge or obstacle has occurred.
The Moon already not having support and help, whether it be physically or emotionally, encounters rejection, coldness, and blockages that Saturn has set in place. This can make us feel depressed, anxious, overly serious, restricted and stagnant. This can also bring physical injury too, so make sure to not over exert yourself, don’t ignore or neglect your physical needs. Saturn being heavy for the beginning of the day can bring delays and a certain level of slowness to start off Tuesday.
The Moon will then make a sextile to the Sun which starts to bring a close to the end of the lunar month. When the Sun and Moon are in agreement with each other, it tends to be a good day. Finding recognition, support, and enlightenment. Whereas this Scorpio Moon transit was rough with a harsh square from Saturn, the sextile to the Sun offers some warmth from the Sun to melt our inhibitions and fears away.
Scorpio and Aquarius have a very cold relationship since Scorpio is the middle of fall, and Aquarius is the middle of winter, and they’re both ruled by the malefics, Mars for Scorpio, and Saturn for Aquarius.
The Moon then enters Sagittarius, which brings more activity, more heat, and enthusiasm into the day. The mood becomes more optimistic and light-hearted as the Moon will connect to its domicile lord, Jupiter, through a trine in Aries. The Moon trine Jupiter looks like an opportunity for enlightenment, action, and inspiration after a ROUGH Scorpio Moon.
We find answers to the questions of pain and hurt that are brought up. The Moon trining Jupiter is also able to push the nature of Sagittarius over to Jupiter over in Aries, who still is strong in those first 6º by Triplicity (+3) and Term (+2). Jupiter gives a lot of support for matters of teaching, learning, philosophy, law, education, divination, religion, writing, creativity, travel, and freedom. Its definitely one of the better aspects for the day and we end the day on a strong note with cheerfulness, joy, and spiritual fulfillment.
The Moon will be simultaneously making an opposition to Mars, so there is the eminent threat of competition, debates, arguments about facts/faith, contentions, and contest. Jupiter offers some affirmation of belief and perspective, while Mars challenges our faith with harmful words and language that instigates conflict. This aspect will build simultaneously as the Moon trining Jupiter, but goes exact on Wednesday ET. You might feel on edge but the presence of a benefic with reception allows for there to be an ameliorating influence to offset the issues that may come up.
Wednesday Jan 18th
[2:38 AM ET] The Moon in Sagittarius opposes Mars at 08º18’ Gemini
[8:11 AM ET] STATON: Mercury stations Direct at 08º07’ Capricorn
[9:44 AM ET] SYNODIC CYCLE: Pluto Cazimi at 28º13’ Capricorn
[10:05 PM ET] The Moon in Sagittarius sextile Venus at 20º03’ Aquarius
On Wednesday, the Moon in Sagittarius perfects its opposition to Mars which can bring harm while traveling, conflict and debates over ideas, philosophy, education, and scholars; physical conflict and violence, as well as injury. The Moon is already in a fire sign, and it encounters the rays from the fiery planet, which incites action, competition, and contests. Be careful of things catching fire or burning yourself from hot things/overheating. This can be literally things overheating or catching fire, or a metaphor for our attitude through the day. The Moon won’t connect with any other planets for a while throughout the day so there is this lingering tension that is felt in the air. The Moon will eventually make a sextile to Venus after almost 20 hours have passed, which will allow us to find some level of peace, compromise, and solution to the conflict Mars highlighted. Whereas Mars shows there is division, Venus shows us there is unity and compromise.
One of the major transits that happens today though is Mercury stations Direct in Capricorn. This entire week is defined by this Mercury station. To define a station:
Station: A period in which a planet has slowed down in the sky, causing them to stop moving, and change zodiacal direction. There are two types of station, 1) First Station, when the planet stops moving to start move backwards in Retrograde motion through the sky; and 2) Second Station, when the planet stops moving to start moving forward through the sky in Direct motion. Each stations are important because they signify the change in direction of a planet, either introducing delays and hinderances at the first station, or signifying the rectification of matters, activity, and vitality removing hinderances and obstacles at the second station. Usually stations can be felt as soon as the planet is coming back to the degree where it will station, which can be anywhere from a week to a whole month. Planets like Mercury will spend around 1-2 weeks at their station Direct, about a week before and a week after. Whereas planets like Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn will spend around 1 month at their station direct. There is an intensification of the planets energy that happens at this specific point in the zodiac through this station.
Mercury is at its Second Station, where it stations direct. Mercury and Mars have had an overlapping Retrograde from Dec 29th (Mercury stationing Retrograde) to Jan 12th (Mars station Direct) and are both directly disposited to each other. Mercury is in Mars’ exaltation and Mars is in Mercury’s domicile, so they are mutual received but averse to each other so they don’t make an aspect. The activity of the dark houses being highlighted by Mercury and Mars suggest secret or hidden action becoming more visible as Mars will consistently become more visible, and Mercury makes its appearance as a Morning Star in a few days. Mercury stationing Direct can give us more certainty, strategy, and freshness to begin or start projects this week since the Martial influence of Capricorn allows for tenacity, sheer will, and effort to be some of our motivating factors, but on an intellectual, mental, level since Mars is in Gemini. Mentally preparing yourself feels like an important topics and theme.
Capricorn is a sign of secrets, plots, schemes, waiting, and contemplation, and Mercury gives us more certainty and sobriety within exercising our knowledge and forethought. Mars is Direct too, so there is this certainty and boost of energy to initiate in conflict, competition, and where to take action now that we have some firmness in our knowledge. Secrets and knowledge is the connection of Capricorn to Gemini. All things hidden with Capricorn, and the curiosity and desire for knowledge with Mars in Gemini. This station helps out Mars as well too because it will no longer be ruled by a Retrograde planet. We can find this to be a moment of finding good news around writing, documents, letters, messages, education, learning, trickery being undone, and communications. Matters of wealth, money, and responsibility might be relevant due to the sign of Capricorn.
Mercury stationing Direct happens as Mercury gets released from the Beams of the Sun, becoming visible as a morning star, but this concept of Mercury going from a period of invisibility to now being visible shows a proclamation, declaration, important news, or a statement being brought to the house Capricorn rules in your chart. After a period of revision and review, more certainty on what action needs to be taken moving forward is presented to us today. That which has been secret gets brought to the light this week. We may be prompted to look at thing from the past, relics, ancient and old things. This all happens on Wednesday which is Mercury’s Day, so we will really feel the influence of Mercury changing directions today as this is the first Mercury Day with Mercury Direct.
Pluto is also getting a reset today too as it conjoins the Sun, which may spark some important changes going on with Pluto’s ingress into Aquarius in approximately 2 months. Whenever a planet conjoins the Sun, it is resetting its cycle and this is an important reset for Pluto.
Thursday Jan 19th
[5:08 AM ET] The Moon in Sagittarius sextile Saturn at 24º23’ Aquarius
[2:11 PM ET] INGRESS: The Moon enters Capricorn
[8:29 PM ET] The Moon in Capricorn square Jupiter at 03º56’ Aries
On Thursday, after making a sextile to Venus in Aquarius, the Moon then makes a sextile to Saturn in Aquarius. Whereas Venus brought some smoothness, unity, and diplomacy to temper the inflamed opposition to Mars, Saturn is here to keep us restrained, cool, and serious throughout the beginning of the day. A sextile to Saturn cools us down since Saturn represents the extremes of restraint and inhibition. Following the rules, sticking the guidelines, and being made aware of boundaries/restrictions become important for the beginning part of the day. Whatever we were entangled with on Wednesday, Saturn puts a stop to it and urges us to take a break.
This energy will last until afternoon ET when the Moon enters Capricorn, going from Jupiter ruled who affirms action, zeal, and enthusiasm while Saturn inhibits, restricts, and makes everything serious. The Moon is in Exile which can represent issues with restricting yourself from feeling certain emotions, repressing expression, and embodying a more stoic disposition for the day. This Capricorn Moon is a nicer moment of cool since it won’t aspect any malefics while it moves through this sign. It will make a square to Jupiter in Aries, a benefic. That will be the aspect thats building throughout the entire day, and while we may feel restrained and inhibited, Jupiter gives us an opportunity for freedom, joy, inspiration, liberation, and the desire to take action since it is located in Aries. Capricorn and Aries are both Martial signs so they talk about action, persistence, and sparks igniting. Aries provides warmth while Capricorn can feel cold. The Moon is still waning and decreasing light, so there is an element of exhaustion and tiredness with this transit.
Friday Jan 20th
[3:29 AM ET] INGRESS: The Sun enters Aquarius
[3:30 AM ET] The Moon conjoins Mercury at 08º21’ Capricorn
On Friday, the Sun leaves Capricorn and enters Aquarius early in the morning. This is an important dignity shift for the Sun, who is at home in Leo representing the middle of summer where the Sun’s influence of heating and drying is felt the most, enters into the sign directly opposite— its antithesis, the middle of winter where it is the coldest. The Sun going into a position of exile can show up as a period lacking confidence, difficulty with being recognized of affirmed, feeling one’s will restricted and inhibited, caught in contemplation to the point of inertia. The Sun looses confidence coming into this sign, and meets the Saturnian restraint and restrictions. Aquarius is a sign of orthodoxy, limits, and social convention and we take a much more selfless approach towards engaging with others for the next month as we become aware of the ways in which our will is restricted by certain ideas, notions, and beliefs. There is a more social component to the Sun being in Aquarius, but being aware of the ways in which we conform and give up pieces of ourselves to be accepted by certain structures and limits in society. Recognizing the ideas that pull society together becomes important with this transit as the Sun will be inching towards its conjunction to Saturn by late February. Aquarius can take on a cold, detached, disposition and we can feel this as we try to express ourselves, or the lack of ability to.
The Moon makes a conjunction to Mercury just as Mercury stationed Direct earlier in the week, so if there was any news that would be communicated it would be received by this transit. This is a talkative transit that has our mind is bouncing back and forth with many ideas. If you’re planning to do any writing, sending out letters, or important documents this is a great time to do so. The Moon conjoining Mercury is always great for writing, studying, handling financial matters, sending paperwork, or important emails. Especially as Mercury is stationed in the sky, this is a critical moment in the sky where the Moon is translating the energy of Mercury in the sky. If you can see the Moon and Mercury in the Morning Sky, right before sunrise, you definitely should! The whole sign aspect of a benefic, Jupiter, in sight with no malefics shows this is some positive or uplifting news. The Moon in a way is pulling together the whole sign square between Mercury and Jupiter that won’t perfect, but are within orb of each other. Success with matters of teaching, learning, writing, putting together the ideas of a big picture, sharing knowledge on philosophy, religion, astrology, and dreams. Jupiter tends to magnify the knowledge and wisdom that Mercury communicates through writing or speaking. Jupiter wants to expand our minds during this time, and the Moon brings this energy into full effect on Friday.
Saturday Jan 21st
[1:28 PM ET] INGRESS: The Moon enters Aquarius
[3:53 PM ET] LUNATION: New Moon at 01º32’ Aquarius
[8:08 PM ET] The Moon in Aquarius sextile Jupiter at 04º16’ Aries
As we head into the weekend, the Moon will continue moving though the end of Capricorn up until afternoon ET where it will the enter Aquarius. Throughout the entire day, the Moon will be under the beams of the Sun and will be in its dark phase, where it cannot be seen in the sky, is hidden, and no longer has any light. The Moon is said to be “under the bond” during this time, and it can be experiences as our energy levels waning, feeling really tired, exhausted, and needing rest. The Moon shows a moment of retreat & inactivity throughout the first part of the day. The Moon will then conjoin the Sun who has newly ingressed into Aquarius, bringing important new beginnings, new decisions, and fresh starts in the house Aquarius rules in your chart. Anytime a planet conjoins the Sun, it is a moment of purification, reset, and purging of the previous cycle. This New Moon gives way to major new beginnings and starts kicking off the delayed New Year. This New Moon is much needed as it is the first one with both Mercury and Mars direct, which brings more clarity and straightforward action. The ruler of this lunation is without a doubt Saturn, and this Aquarius Season represents the close and ending of the previous cycle of Saturn from 2022, but also represents the closing out of Saturn in Aquarius since March 2020.
This Aquarius Season is important because it will usher Saturn out of this sign and into Pisces by March 7th, 2023 which is only a month-ish away. Saturn leaving the sign of its domcile and entering into a sign where it is Peregrine, without essential dignity or debility; equivalent to a planet wandering and traveling, loosing essential dignity. Saturn going from the Fixed, enduring, and inert Air sign, fixing our ideas, consolidating, and structuring our values goes into the Mutable Water sign, which requires more changeability, brings inconsistencies due to the mutable, and adds flexibility & fluidity due to the water influence. This New Moon marks the ending of a 3 year long chapter in the house that Aquarius rules in your chart, and for the next month we get an emphasis on this house as long as the Sun is moving through Aquarius. This New Moon can see both malefics, and addresses the social tension both Mars and Saturn have been causing over the past few months.
The Sun in Aquarius can now witness Mars Direct in Gemini, and will start applying towards a trine to Mars. This acts as a confirmation of action, resuming motion, and engaging in competition over the next week. Quickness in action and decision making becomes really important going into Saturday, but also not feeling super confident at the same time since the Sun is exiled in Aquarius, representing lack of confidence and contemplation while Mars urges us some action needs to be taken and move forward.
The Sun is in the 9th position from Mars (overcoming trine) which is a good position for the Sun to be in since it rejoices in the 9th house. It signifies having knowledge, perception, illumination, and clarity being found about the type of conflict, arguments, or debate that we’ve been reviewing since the Retrograde Period. Being aware of the self inhibiting and restricting limits that are being set urge us to take action. This New Moon is very energizing with this trine to Mars and the pace will continue to pick up as Mars gains speed. Mars highlighted here makes matters of war, fighting, conflict, and competition all important as Venus is about to approach some important limitations and restrictions as they’re about to conjoin Saturn tomorrow. The Sun and Moon both harmonize with then igniting influence of Mars that spurs action and activity.
The Moon will continue to gain light throughout the rest of the day, but will still be hidden. It makes a sextile to Jupiter which offers support, friendship, and optimism throughout the end of the day.
Sunday Jan 22nd
[3:01 AM ET] The Moon in Aquarius trine Mars at 08º40’ Gemini
[5:12 PM ET] Venus conjoins Saturn at 24º47’ Aquarius
[5:53 PM ET] STATION: Uranus stations Direct at 14º56’ Taurus
The Moon will make a trine to Mars early in the morning which can spark conflict, inflame us and cause agitation, instigate conflict, violence, and irritation. Mars gives us a signal that there is something that gets our adrenaline rising and blood pumping. It is a good time for matters related to physical activity as Mars can inspire efforts towards work and action, but it can also be irritating too.
The Aquarian energy can have us super aware of certain societal issues and structures and particularly important restrictions being set in place that spark some level of frustration and anger inside of us. Venus conjoins Saturn today and this conjunction can be interpreted in a few different ways. Venus throughout this entire week has been moving towards this conjunction to Saturn, and because this is Saturn’s home (Aquarius), its effect of restricting, inhibiting, and enforcing orthodoxy triumph of the influence of Venus. Venus can represent relationships, partnerships, and law and the focus being on regulating and restricting women, love, and sexuality. Saturn restricts and binds Venus’ ability to bring people together, demonstrate and share love, and expression in this conjunction. With some of the major changes happening in congress, I’m thinking about the abortion bills that house republicans are trying to pass to restrict women’s bodily autonomy and freedom. Or Missouri Republicans efforts to pass laws to further restrict the dress code of women in congress. In another way, this could talk about lawyers and diplomats who are women coming into power or exercising influence to setting a standard. In another context, Saturn brings restrictions and blockages to Venus who represents relationships, which can talk about need to take a break or pause. In other instances, this can also represent making important commitments and binding agreements since Venus is relationships and Saturn is that which endures and is long lasting. This can show a desire for long term commitments and being serious about these matters, not just today, but throughout the entire week.
Ultimately, Saturn depresses the nature of Venus in this conjunction and social situations might feel more tense or stagnant during this time. Less friendliness, feeling neglected, ignored, and even isolated are also feelings that can come up too. Social anxiety, anxiousness in general, and inhibitions are feelings that come up during the day. There is a desire for social reform and change as Saturn’s conjunction with Venus goes exact on the same day Uranus stations Direct in the sky. Feelings of scarcity in luxuries, food, and entertainment become important focal topics. The Moon will be moving towards a conjunction with Venus and Saturn that goes exact on Monday, as the Moon start to become new, visible, and a crescent after conjoining the Sun. There is a seriousness to this transit that is simultaneously paired with the action inspiring trine to Mars that the Moon made.
